About Me

Danny Scalise Headshot

I’m Danny Scalise, a public health director, educator, and writer. I’ve worked at the intersection of health leadership and advocacy for over 20 years, helping communities across Appalachia and beyond. I’m also the author of *The Algorithm*, a speculative fiction novella that explores surveillance, grief, and resistance in a near-future United States. In addition to my leadership roles in local public health, I hold faculty appointments at West Virginia University and Campbell University. I mentor young professionals and write both academically and creatively about public health, ethics, and society. My fiction often blends moral complexity with social issues, while my academic work focuses on health policy, behavioral health, and systems innovation. Whether I’m advising on population health strategies or crafting dystopian stories, my mission remains the same: to provoke thought, foster equity, and create a healthier future.
